Getting married on Disney Cruise Line is a special and unique way to celebrate with family and friends. A multi-day vacation, where you’re together with everyone you love celebrating such a joyous occasion, is the ultimate destination wedding. This is why when Amanda and Brian reached out about their wedding on Disney Wish, I was overjoyed for their upcoming nuptials, the weekend of their 18th anniversary!
They selected the Bayou for their wedding nuptials and cake and champagne toast. It’s a gorgeous venue on the ship that’s adorned with a ceiling of flowers and has a romantic and intimate vibe. A lot of couples who contact me about their wedding on the Disney Wish have never been on the ship, so I’m always happy to lend my expertise about the ship, having been on the ship several times.
Though other guests onboard can indeed be onlookers if they choose to be, most people watch what is going on for a moment or two and move on. And despite there being no walls dividing the Grand Hall (the atrium) or the Bayou from the balconies and hallways, respectively, you’re in your own wedding world during a ceremony or reception, and you don’t even notice other passengers.
Before the official wedding ceremony even begins, I work hard to capture the morning of everyone getting ready since the entire day is an integral part of a DCL wedding, not just the nuptials. This is part of why I love being the photographer to capture Disney Cruise Line weddings.
Early afternoon, I met Amanda at Tangled salon and Brian in his best man’s stateroom to capture the bride, groom, and their VIPs preparing for the rest of the day. Amanda and her mother-in-law, mom, sister-in-law, and best friend diligently helped her prepare, making sure her gown was in tip-top shape and items for the rest of the day were in order.
Brian’s best man helped him put on his Mickey Mouse cufflinks, a subtle but cute detail for a couple getting married on a Disney cruise!
Amanda’s stunning white satin and rhinestone wedding day shoes looked incredible on the entrance table into The Rose bar. It’s one of my all-time favorite photos of bridal heels, along with the photo of their rings, which was on a detail of a beautiful tray in The Rose bar.
A favorite time of mine during any Disney Wish wedding is always my time going around the ship with the couple to photograph them in stunning places onboard. We went from The Rose bar to the famous Disney Cruise Line stack on the top decks to the Grand Hall.
I absolutely swoon for the photos of Amanda and Brian in Nightingale’s, the onboard piano bar. The grand piano and bubble chandelier are to die for!
Their ceremony started mid-afternoon. One of the ship’s officers officiated their ten-minute ceremony. After the ceremony and a delightful rose petal toss, they danced their first dance on the Bayou dance floor. This was followed by parent dances – Amanda with the father of the bride and Brian with the mother of the groom.
The second-youngest guest most loved their cake after the bride and groom cut it: their adorable flower girl! To end this portion of the day, Amanda, Brian, and I headed to an outside deck for some final photos during golden hour to catch the beautiful Caribbean light before sunset.
Disney Cruise Line is unique in being a cruise line that’s able to do fireworks at sea. Weather permitting, fireworks are launched from the top deck of the ship during the Pirate Party evening. For Amanda and Brian’s wedding cruise, the fireworks happened on the same day of the wedding. This was a lot of fun and a grand finale to a fantastic day!
