6 Best Family Photo Locations in Winter Park, Florida

When it comes to capturing beautiful family memories, Winter Park, Florida, offers a variety of stunning backdrops. Its beauty is part of why I love calling it home.

Whether you’re looking for lush greenery, serene lakes, or architectural charm, this quaint town has a bit of it all. As a Winter Park family photographer, I’ve explored the best spots in the area to ensure your family photos are as magical as the moments we’ll capture together. Here are my top five scenic locations for family photography in Winter Park.

Top Locations for Family Photos in Winter Park

1. Mead Botanical Garden

If your family loves nature, Mead Botanical Garden is the perfect spot. With its vibrant foliage, shaded pathways, seasonal flowers like roses, and open grassy fields, it’s easy to find a setting that suits your family’s style.

The garden’s rustic elements and murals add a unique opportunity for variety in your family photos. Whether looking for a playful or serene vibe, Mead Botanical Garden offers endless possibilities – a particular favorite feature of mine is the Spanish moss that hangs from some of the trees.

Pro Tip: Mornings and late afternoons provide the best natural light. Additionally, you need a photography permit to take photos here – I take care of all that for my clients!

2. Kraft Azalea Garden

Known as “Winter Park’s secret garden,” Kraft Azalea Garden is a hidden gem nestled along Lake Maitland. The towering cypress trees and moss-draped branches create a whimsical atmosphere perfect for timeless family portraits. The lakeside views and iconic Exedra Monument add an elegant touch to your photos.

Pro Tip: This spot is particularly stunning at sunset when the golden light reflects off the lake.

3. Rollins College Campus

Rollins College combines historical charm with natural beauty, making it a versatile location for family photos. The Spanish-Mediterranean architecture, vine-covered walls, and tranquil lakeside views offer a mix of classic and modern backdrops. Families with teenage children often love this location for its collegiate, upscale feel and gorgeous landscapes.

Pro Tip: The Virginia S. Nelson Rose Garden on campus stands out for colorful photos when the roses are in bloom.

4. Central Park on Winter Park’s Park Avenue

Located in the heart of downtown Winter Park, Central Park is a vibrant and lively location with plenty of photo opportunities. Its tree-lined paths, colorful flowerbeds, and elegant fountains create a cheerful and welcoming vibe for family sessions. This spot is ideal for families who want a mix of nature and architectural charm.

Pro Tip: Make sure that you schedule your session outside of the Winter Park Farmer’s Market and during a weekday for less crowds. Also, be sure there aren’t special events scheduled on the day you want to take photos. I check the city’s events calendar for all my clients.

5. Casa Feliz

Casa Feliz, with its stunning Spanish farmhouse architecture, is one of Winter Park’s most enchanting family photo locations. This historic home is a picture-perfect Winter Park family photo location.

Its charming brick façade, arched doorways, and iconic blue shutters (a favorite “pop of color” feature of mine) create a warm and timeless backdrop. Surrounded by lush greenery and overlooking a scenic golf course, the venue offers various settings for capturing candid and posed family moments.

Whether you’re drawn to its courtyard’s rustic details or its historic design’s elegance, Casa Feliz provides a unique blend of history and beauty that makes every photo feel like a masterpiece.

Pro Tip: Golden hour, which is the hour before sunset, is the perfect time for family photos here.

6. Dinky Dock Park

Don’t let the name fool you! The small park provides a wonderful backdrop for family photos that are anything but dinky.

Dinky Dock Park is a fantastic choice for families wanting water in the background of their photo session. This lakeside park offers sandy shores, wooden docks, and sparkling water views that create a relaxed, casual vibe for your photos. Kids love playing by the water, and the natural setting makes for candid, joyful moments. The park is located just east of Rollins College near downtown Winter Park.

Pro Tip: Bring towels and an extra outfit to let the kids splash around in Lake Virginia for some fun action shots to finish your session.
