Sarah and Rob’s wedding was on the most perfect day in May at Waveny House in New Canaan, Connecticut. Everything was as I had hoped and imagined it would be for this sweet couple. The clouds were the perfect amount of cover on the spring earth beneath it. Rob looked so handsome in his classic black tuxedo and Sarah the image of a perfect bride in a strapless wedding gown. Her delicate hands fit perfectly in Rob’s all day and their hugs to one another were something that stick out in my mind as one of the fondest aspects of the day. I was in love with Sarah’s spring bouquet and as the season of new beginnings and growth was in full swing their relationship moved forward to a beautiful marriage.
This couple is elegant and timeless through and through. Their wedding invitation was created with a simple black and white palette in mind. A laurel wreath illustration encircled the calligraphy text to add just the right amount of interest. Their Save the Date complimented it well, created with a calligraphy machine Rob purchased and operated with a graphic of their two silhouettes facing each other. They each prepared for their wedding day in separate rooms in the historic venue, a home built in 1912.
The women toasted to the day with champagne filled glasses in pretty floral robes. Sarah gifted them the cutest little slippers for comfy preparations and a pearl and gold necklace to top off their bridesmaids dresses. When it was time for their first look, Sarah finished her wedding day attire with stunning rhinestone adorned tan Badgley Mischka heels.
Sarah’s “something borrowed” was her mother’s Tiffany earrings of white gold, diamonds and aquamarine. I admit I’m IN LOVE with this photo of her sisters watching her put them on. All the females in the family supporting their loved one on her wedding day!
She also borrowed a double-strand pearl bracelet with her mother’s initials on the clasp, a truly special family heirloom. Sarah’s necklace matched her earrings and added the perfect amount of sparkle to her elegant strapless wedding gown.
Rob prepared just across the hall with seven of his best friends and family. He gifted his groomsmen very cool and modern MoMA flasks and his final touch for his wedding day look was square mother-of-pearl cufflinks.
The season of the wedding, spring, was defined by the bride’s incredible bouquet. She carried a slightly tear-drop shape creation with white, green and pink flowers including parrot tulips, scabiosa, ranunculus, variegated greenery, lisianthus, dusty miller and roses. Her bridesmaids carried delicate Baby’s Breath bouquets.
Sarah paused for a moment of reflection and a fabulous photo, if I do say so myself, before heading down the stairs to see Rob for the first time that afternoon. The train of her gown followed each of her soft footsteps towards her future husband. It was a tearful first look! Rob had to take off his glasses more than once to wipe his eyes and I overheard them discussing how joyful the day was and how they couldn’t imagine happiness more fulfilling than this. How sweet is that?
We walked amongst the gardens and grass within the 300 acres of land that’s part of Waveny Park property. It was delightful simply being near them, feeling their loving energy and witnessing their emotions during this quiet time together before the day continued and many more people joined the festivities.
Soft pink was the perfect color for her bridesmaids. They wore various styles of the same shade and one of her sister’s wore a pink floral patterned gown as her maid of honor.
The wedding party enjoyed peeking through the windows of the mansion during the afternoon as I captured detail photos like the front of the house and the hand-beading on Sarah’s veil.
Their ceremony was officiated by Sarah’s father and took place in the walled garden. After they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. it was time to enjoy cocktail hour on the venue’s back patio just steps away from the ceremony location.
I couldn’t resist including a photo of one of my past bride + groom couples turned good friends of mine. Yajaira and Kipp (who also got married at Waveny House) are the reason Sarah and Rob knew about my photography and I can’t thank them enough for making the connection.
Guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres and refreshing drinks while playing corn hole. The boards were custom created to match their Save the Date.
One of my favorite features of the venue is the outdoor patio where a lot of the action happens during a reception. Beautiful weather is best enjoyed from here during cocktail hour, it serves as the perfect airy dance floor and it’s a stellar stage for the band. Sarah and Rob had their first dance here to “What a Wonderful World,” and Rob shared a special dance with his mom. Sarah’s father dedicated, “Sunrise, Sunset” from Fiddler on the Roof, a sentimental song, to his daughter and new son-in-law that he played on the violin,.
The inside of the venue was beautifully decorated. Each chair, covered in white linen, was pretty-in-pink with a satin bow. Tables were named after their favorite songs and guests found their way to their seats with the help of a framed chalkboard sign as they entered the area. Each guest received a succulent plant to take home, perfect for spring that would soon turn to summer.
The newlyweds’ sweetheart table had green garland placed on it, rose petals scattered on top with just the right amount of candlelight and champagne (of course!). Their cake was created by a family friend – three tiers of buttercream-covered layers – topped with roses.
We were sure to get photos by that single grand tree pictured above during the day but I love the night photo of it I took shortly after they cut their cake. It’s the tree they picnicked under years ago early on in their relationship, where Sarah first recognized Rob was “the one.” And on their wedding day they toasted and celebrated this new chapter in their lives within eyesight of it. Cheers to this incredible couple on their new journey as husband and wife!
