INTERESTED IN WORKING WITH MIKKEL?
DON'T HESITATE TO REACH OUT.
Brett and Josh said “I do” in a very intimate wedding of their very nearest and dearest family and a few friends, in the most gorgeous California setting at Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa just minutes from San Diego.
There was so much I loved about their day, from the conversations Brett and I had about their wedding date (which happened to be her birthday, too!) and about the astrology surrounding it (which I totally jive with), to choice of location, to details like their hashtag (#ModernFramily), to best friends and siblings in their wedding party who had been a part of their lives through various chapters to meet them at this most special day.
I met Brett from years as children sleepaway camp in Pennsylvania. (Which was why I was EXTRA flattered when she contacted me to capture one of the most important days of her life.) Watching her get her hair done in the bridal suite (the suite, which is pictured below from the outside is so charming!) reminded me of rainy days at camp spent with girlfriends indoors just enjoying the atmosphere, weeks ago and being all-around-girly.
Brett gifted her four bridesmaids the cutest “tie the knot” bracelets. I LOVE little charms like that! So soft and perfect for an everyday piece or wedding day. And her brother’s girlfriend, Amanda, who was a bridesmaid, was so thoughtful and got Brett a custom hanger for her wedding gown. It looked perfect between the shoulders of her pink BCBG lace and chiffon gown!
Liz, the maid of honor and Brett’s best friend since college, got an extra special additional gift of pearl earrings. I LOVED the plants everywhere. The succulents on the property were the perfect prop addition to invitation photos and ring shots!
I absolutely loved witnessing the bond between Brett and her parents. She wrote them both their own cards and gave them to them the morning of her wedding day. Later on during the reception they had the sweetest family slow dance on the dance floor.
All ready for their first look, which happened outdoors along with their pre-ceremony photos. I was so glad we got to take advantage of the beautiful grounds before it started to rain much later.
Something really unique that they did was read their vows to each other after their first look, with no one else there. Even I nestled myself between plants among the landscape to let them have their moment.
Their ceremony was moved indoors because of the rain – which was a perfect call, because rain it did! But it worked out nicely because we simply got to utilize more of the resort and it was a nice prelude into their candlelight reception. Rabbi Ian, who was hysterical and had everyone laughing, presided over a really heartfelt ceremony.
It’s time to take the Modern Framily (not pictured at the wedding, their beloved cat, Franny…but she made an appearance on their cake topper and custom M&Ms) to the dance floor!
Cheers to the newlyweds! May your marriage be as exciting and strong as all the days leading up to your magical wedding weekend! I was SO honored to be a part of it.
